Relief Efforts Begin After Fire Devastates Community in Chile

An estimated 10,000 – 12,000 people were evacuated from Chile’s port city of Valparaiso to escape a fast moving and deadly fire. The fire began 12 April 2014 and claimed the lives of 11 individuals and has left thousands of families without livable housing.

According to local reports, nearly 2,500 homes have been entirely destroyed, wiping out personal items, clothing and other assets.

Local churches and NCM staff are responding to the needs of those affected by this devastating event. Together, we are working to provide tents, food, diapers, milk, blankets, toiletries, and other basic necessities.

In the midst of overwhelming loss, congregations have come together to collect food, pray, and provide compassionate care for their neighbors as the community begins the process of rebuilding.

Please join us in praying for the people of Valparaiso, that they might experience the presence of God through the compassion of others in the midst of tragedy. Pray for the families of those who have died, for those who have lost so much, and for volunteers and workers who are serving those in need.
