When Disasters Strike: Churches Mobilize in the Face of Devastation

It would be hard to look back at the summer of 2017 and not think of all of the natural disasters that took place around the world. While news cycles are picking up new stories, thousands of people who are still living through difficult circumstances.

In the midst of it all, the local church displayed its powerful role as a present help during disasters. As an established part of communities, local churches are already invested in the communities hit by unexpected disasters. When crises occurred, churches worked quickly to form relief teams and assess the needs in their communities. Church members were able to respond, whether by providing medical care, cooking meals, distributing food and supplies, or cleaning out homes and removing debris. People of all ages, gender, and backgrounds were able to give and bring aid to their neighbors.

In the past four months, Nazarene churches around the world provided aid to 140,000 people. Here’s a look at how Nazarene churches responded to needs in their communities.
